What Happens When Your Book Joins the Pin Lit Collective?
In my last post, I announced that the Pin Lit Collective is open for registration. I shared why I created it: authors deserve a practical way to help their books be discovered long after launch day.
But what does that actually look like?
Let’s start with the question many authors are probably asking: How much of this do I have to do myself?
You’ll share your book and the materials that help me get to know it: your cover, information about the story, and any educator guides, downloads, or other resources you’ve created. We’ll talk about who the book is for and what you most hope readers will find in it.
Once those pieces are in place, it’s on us.
Your book gets a place of its own
Every Collective book receives a dedicated landing page. Think of it as a welcoming stop between someone’s search and their decision to explore your book further.
The page does more than repeat the jacket copy. It helps a teacher see how the book might serve a classroom. It helps a parent recognize a story their child might need. It helps a librarian spot themes that fit a collection or reading list.
We build that page with the words people may use when looking for a book like yours, along with clear, useful information about its story, audience, and benefits. It also connects your book to relevant titles and shelves within the Collective. Someone who arrives looking for one topic may find your book through a connection they hadn’t considered.
And if you have an educator guide tucked away on your website, please bring it along! That guide can tell us a great deal about your book’s classroom value. Its activities and discussion questions may help shape the page’s message, while the page gives more visitors a chance to find the guide.
Your book’s page remains in the Collective after its campaign ends. It has a lasting home there.
Then we build the pathways to it
For each book, we create ten pin graphics, along with searchable titles and descriptions. We consider the boards where those pins belong and the different ways a reader might look for your book.
A book about friendship, for example, might also connect to moving, letter writing, belonging, or classroom community. Each connection gives us another way to introduce the book to someone who could use it.
Those pins are published through the established Pin Lit Pinterest account and scheduled over several months. You don’t need to open a Pinterest account, learn how to write pin descriptions, or keep up with a posting calendar to participate.
This is the part that excites me most. Imagine a teacher planning a unit six months from now and finding your book. Or a librarian assembling a display two years from now. The content we create is designed with those future discoveries in mind.
We learn from the pins before promoting them
After the pins have had approximately six weeks on Pinterest, I study their early performance. Which ones are earning impressions, engagement, or saves? Which topics are resonating? What might be especially useful to readers at this time of year?
From there, I choose four pins for a 30-day promoted campaign. The included advertising budget gives those promising pins another opportunity to reach people interested in their topics.
I love this step because we’re learning from real responses to the book’s content. It helps us make a more informed choice about where to put that extra attention.
And when the campaign ends?
The three-month campaign has an endpoint. Your book’s place in the Collective does not.
Its landing page remains available, with connections to other relevant books. The pins remain on Pinterest, where people may continue to encounter them through searches and recommendations. No one can promise when a particular reader will find a particular pin. We can give your book a thoughtful presence built around the ways people look for stories and resources.
That’s the heart of the Pin Lit Collective. You bring the book you believe in. I do the work of building its page, finding its connections, creating its pins, and guiding its campaign.
Your book has more to offer than its title alone can tell someone. Let’s help people discover all the reasons it belongs on their shelf.
